1. Introduction

The college of mathematics and information science of HBU has a history of nearly 70 years. Its predecessor is the Mathematics Department of private Jin‘gu University, which was founded in 1951. In 1978, we began to recruit master's students majoring in pure mathematics. In 1984, it was granted the right to grant master's degree in pure mathematics, which was one of the six master's degree authorization points in our university at that time. In 2021, it was granted the right to grant Ph.D. degree in mathematics.

At present, the college has four departments: Department of Mathematics, Department of Software Engineering, Department of Data Science and the Department of Mathematics Teaching and Research. It offers four undergraduate majors: Mathematics and applied mathematics, Information and computing science, Software engineering, Data science and big data technology, of which Mathematics and applied mathematics is national first-class undergraduate majors and Software engineering is provincial first-class undergraduate majors. It has the first-class discipline doctoral program in mathematics and the first-class discipline master programs in mathematics and software engineering.

In the future, the college will continue to uphold the educational concept of "consolidating the foundation, exploring the unknown, pursuing the truth and climbing the peak", and will rely on the profound school running history of Hebei University and the new platform of "joint construction of ministries and provinces". It will also adhere to the discipline construction as the leading role, give full play to the advantages and characteristics of pure disciplines, pay attention to the development of high-quality connotation, strengthen the quality of running schools and social services. It will make further achievements in the new journey of discipline construction, teaching reform and talent training in the future.
