About us

HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communication and Creative Industries is a cooperative running school between Hebei University (the HBU thereafter) and The University of Central Lancashire (the UCLan thereafter) in 2013 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is located in the Qiyi Road Campus of Hebei University. The first cohort of students were enrolled in September 2014. It is the first Sino-foreign corporative institution with non-independent legal status in Hebei Province.


The Joint School takes cultivating innovative talents as its mission to provide students with a talent training platform featuring a Chinese and English learning environment, integration of Chinese and foreign cultures, and close cooperation between school and enterprise. It aims to cultivate high-end talents in international, comprehensive, and innovative media creativity fields with a strong sense of social responsibility and patriotism.


The joint school provides undergraduate education and postgraduate education, with a total enrollment of 908 students. The joint school offers 6 undergraduate majors, including Media Production and Technology, Advertising, Film and Media and Film Production, Graphic Design, Interior Design and Animation with 4+0 education mode. The plan is to recruit 200 students with a total number of 800 students each year. All classes are taught in English, and small classes are taught. Students enrolled in the joint school are eligible for registration at both HBU and UCLan. Students who successfully complete the teaching program and who meet the degree award requirements for HBU shall be awarded a Bachelor Degree of HBU. Students who meet the degree award requirements for both HBU and UCLan, shall be awarded a Bachelor Degree of HBU and a Bachelor Degree with Honours of UCLan in the related course. The postgraduate program lasts for 3 years, with 3+0 training mode., Including TV Production, Interior Design and Music Industry Management and Promotion, total three course programs at the postgraduate level. The annual enrollment plan is 12 students per each course. There are 108 students in the joint school. Students enrolled in the joint school are eligible for registration at both HBU and UCLan. Students who successfully complete the teaching program and who meet the degree award requirements for HBU shall be awarded a Graduation certificate of HBU. Students who meet the award requirements for both HBU and UCLan, shall be awarded a Master Degree certificate of HBU and UCLan in the related course.


Over the past few years, the joint school has achieved continuous improvement in teaching level and quality of students, which has been widely praised and fully recognized by society. The school currently has four classes of graduates. The average acceptance rate of graduates is 60.9%. The graduates have been admitted by the University College London, The University of Edinburgh, The University of Manchester, The University of Sydney, The University of Melbourne, Royal College of Art, University of the Arts London, Pratt Institute of The Arts, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Communication University of China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Beijing Jiaotong University, and other well-known international and domestic universities. According to incomplete statistics, 51 of the school’s graduates were admitted to the top 50 universities in the QS World University Rankings (including comprehensive rankings and subject rankings), 170 students were admitted to the top 100 universities.


Students have actively participated in international and domestic professional competitions, and have won prizes in "D&AD British Global Creativity Award", "Shanghai International College Students Advertising Festival", "Challenge Cup National College Students Academic Science and Technology Competition", "Internet + College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition". Students' work has been exhibited at the Seattle Children's Film Festival, the Shenzhen International Film Festival, the “New Designer” exhibition in London, the Cannes Young Lions International Design Exhibition, Beijing Design Week, the ‘Best of British’ exhibition at the UK Education Festival, and other international exhibitions.
